The Italian of the Month: Verdena, 'Wow'
Normally, January is not a very interesting month for music releases. 2011, however, is already offering a number of publications in value already in this first month. Italy is also doing its part, especially with the highly anticipated new album Verdena, it deserves to occupy this space monthly for not only the importance of the group, but especially for concrete results in which the trio has come with this Bergamo fifth work for the long haul.
Two discs. Twenty-seven songs. One hour, twenty-three minutes, ten seconds. Disorientation. Focus. Awareness. Dismay. Wonder. Time Out is these pills are and feel that will happen before listening to ' Wow', the fifth studio effort of monumental double Verdena .

In primis, perché di doppi album interessanti usciti in Italia e all'estero nell'ultimo ventennio se ne trovano, certo. Ma molti sono raccolte di B-sides, 'best of', live. E anche questi stanno scomparendo. L'aspetto più importante è però the almost endless stream of ideas from which the explosive three of Bergamo to supply drinking from these compositions. Partendo dai Beatles del ' White Album ' e da Syd Barrett, passando per i Grateful Dead, continuando con Sonic Youth e Motorpsycho ed arrivando alla ricerca sonora di Radiohead e Arcade Fire, il disco lancia strizzatine d'occhi ad ognuno di questi numi tutelari della musica senza davvero ricordare nessuno di essi e nemmeno qualunque altro nome che possa venire in mente.
Si potrebbe appuntare che tra i ventisette momenti - come detto, tutti sostanzialmente arrangiati, suonati e cantati in modo diverso - qualcuno (non più di quattro) a fronte di una ferrea analisi avrebbe potuto restare fuori dalla scaletta definitiva senza che il disco rischiasse di risentirne in qualità e quantità.
